The Bant version normally won the match up against control decks if I managed to counter walkers and wrath effects. But when it came to aggro decks I found myself losing from not having removal for high threat creatures like Highborn or Ezuri. I took the archetype back to the drawing board revamping it as a Naya version removing jace, Gideon and leaks for remove in the form of lightning bolts and arctrails.

I did a little play testing with the Naya version online but I was still got smacked around by walkers and mass removal. Sure all the burn helped the aggro match up but it needed another angle of attack. I decided going for a black package was the overall answer to the archetypes problems. Plus the Naya and Bant version's mana pool's were kind of janky at times when trying to hit all three colors when needed. While playing as Naya I had a lot of games missing red or getting red too late. Then as Bant getting double blue could be troublesome at times. But with changing to Junk or Rock whatever you want to call it officially the two double on color fetches is an outstanding improvement to the mana pool.

1xDivine OfferingPlaying the Junk version really takes the deck to a whole different level then it was before. With black you gain access to hand disruption to take out walkers and wrath effects before they hit the board, the major weakness to the deck. Along with that you still have removal via Boom blade, Disfigure, Go for the throat and to top it all off Phyrexian crusader. Phyrexian crusader is a ridiculous sideboard card, they simply shut down Boros and RDW. When I was playing Boros before I started working on junk anytime a Phyrexian crusader hit the board my odds of winning dropped dramatically. My first week playing junk at FMN, I was in game three with RDW dropped a Phyrexian crusader turn 3, swung in turn four racking up two infect counters. My opponent who happened to one of my good magic buddies thought it was rather cute he was 2infect counters from me. Then two turns later he was at 10 and didn’t think it was cute anymore.
The videos below are me piloting junk in two different matches one vs. Rug and another vs. Cawgo. I did all my recording on magic workstation because I can’t afford a MTGO account along with playing in real life. Never less it still gets the job done.

As you can see Junk holds its own quite well in both match ups. Duressing walkers and wraths away almost seals the deal when fighting Cawgo. In the RUG match up blade hold/slayers do quite well when starring down an inferno titan. I made a few miss plays, for example I should of sworded the bird in match1 game 3 at the end and I’m sure there is a few other things that I could of did differently. But play mistakes are errors we just have to learn from them the best we can. The sideboard still needs some work minus Phyrexian crusaders, inquisition of kozilek, bonehoard and baloths. I think gideon or even grave/sun titan would also not be a bad idea.
Well that brings the standard primer of Junk to a close if you have any ideas for the archetype or questions please them in the comments.
